Magacharity Beach Walk for Clatterbridge Cancer Research
An 18 mile fundraising walk was completed around the northern beaches of Wirral by patrons of the Magazine Hotel Pub, New Brighton, on behalf of friends and family that have been affected by cancer.
Dave Pettman and son Richard, along with friend Mark Tranter, and dogs Max, Charlie and Jack, walked in memory of wife Val Pettman (who sadly passed away in September) and neighbour Freda Hanna, both of whom suffered from cancer.
Dave decided to complete the Wirral Walk with the dogs as a way of fundraising for Clatterbridge Cancer Research. It wasn’t all plain sailing though with son Richard having to give Dave a piggyback for 150 yards after being cut off by water that went over the knees.
Recently, we were presented with a cheque for £1,232 in the Magazine Hotel Pub, where landlady Linda has also had a battle with breast cancer for the last 12 months.
Dave said: “This made me realise that a huge amount of research and work is required to improve the survival rates of cancer-related illnesses and this is why I chose support Clatterbridge Cancer Research”.
The group hope to make it an annual event to bring greater awareness to the cause and the fundraising being done by Magacharity, the Magazine Hotel Pub’s fundraising committee. Special thanks go towards the patrons, friends and relatives, the workforce of Compere Systems, New Brighton Rugby Club and staff at Field Road Health Centre.
