Pete Seeger - Highest Fundraiser 2011

Highest fundraiser of 2011 – Peter Seeger

Clatterbridge Cancer Research would like to congratulate Peter Seeger on raising £14,800 and becoming the charity’s fundraiser of the year 2011!

Peter was a member of the cycle Jordan team which recently returned victorious from the challenge having raised more than £27,000 as a group.

Despite not having ridden a bike for 12 years (Peter cycled China for charity in 1999) Peter got back in saddle to cycle the Nile but ended up tackling Jordan when the event was switched at the last minute due to political unrest in Egypt.

Peter’s bike training, healthier diet and cutting out alcohol saw him become leaner, fitter and faster on two wheels in the build up to the big ride in November.

He said: “It was great, everyone got on like a house on fire. We finished on the Red Sea and I celebrated with a couple of pints, my first in ages.”

Peter estimates about half of the £14,000 he raised was due to support from the rugby community, including Caldy Rugby Club. His boss, Haywood Milton, and colleagues from Milton’s Jewellers in Chester, Birkenhead and Liverpool, also sponsored and supported him.

The Wirral jeweller is a long-standing supporter of the charity since his former wife was diagnosed with cancer.

Peter said: “She was successfully treated but I stayed involved in raising money for research because so many people are touched by the disease.”

Clatterbridge Cancer Research’s executive team decided to surprise Peter at work on Friday 2nd December.

The team burst in to present Peter with his award and a well-deserved celebratory cake.

Clatterbridge Cancer Research director Jo Parry said: “It’s people like Pete who have helped this charity find the funding to continue the fight against cancer year on year.  Without the time, commitment and effort of our fundraisers we couldn’t make the advances we are making or resource one of the best teams of specialist research scientists in the country.  We are so grateful, he’s been amazing."
