Clinical Trial Research

Some of the research our funding has helped to deliver over our 30 year history is ‘Clinical Trial Research.’

Once a discovery is made in a scientist’s laboratory-based research, a drug is then developed to match their scientific findings. The next stage in the research process is to test these drugs to see if they could bring potential benefits to cancer patients – this is called a ‘Clinical Trial’.

These clinical trials are vital in the development of new treatments for cancer patients – without intensive testing of this kind, a new cancer drug could not be delivered. In order for our nurses to work on trials that had the most impact for the people of Merseyside and Cheshire, it was important to select trials based on the research specialities and cancer needs of the region. Therefore, nurses worked to test the benefits of drugs for cancers which were and are still prevalent in our region.
